    Sites for the creatively unbound

    • Alan Phillips is one of Canopic Publishing's most cherished friends and colleagues. His online art studio, (proudly yet humbly designed and maintained by Canopic's Phil Rice) offers endless pleasantries for the windows of the soul. Visit often.
    •
    • David Greenberger's Duplex Planet website offers excerpts from the brilliant Duplex Planet magazine, CDs from the Duplex Planet Hour radio show (featuring music by NRBQ's Terry Adams), the amazing series of CDs entitled Lyrics by Ernest Noyes Brookings that feature a wide variety of notable musical acts performing original music utilizing the words of Duplex Planet regular Ernie Brookings as lyrics, plus other items—including books, comics, and videos—such as only The Duplex Planet can inspire.
    •
    • Jonathan Talbot's online Studio is entertaining and educational, and it offers an extensive look at the artist's work. Talbot is a true talent and his website is a valuable tour.
    •
    • Will D. Campbell: a man of the word, is an excellent site maintained by the University of Southern Mississippi on the man who is, according to Charles E. Rice, "a Mississippi-bred, Yale-taught, guitar-strumming prophet." Although Mr. Campbell is not directly involved with the online venture, the website offers a thematic glimpse into the "bootleg" preacher's contributions to theology, the Civil Rights Movement and American letters.
    •
    • Rethabile Masilo, poet, linguist, literary scholar (etc.), and charter contributor to Canopic Jar, has interesting blogs on Lesotho and Sesotho, and English. Rethabile's blogs, particularly On Lesotho, are valuable sites with a most unself-serving purpose - worth more than a quick visit.
    •
    • Adeptly splitting his time between music and literature,  Doug Hoekstra's official website offers not only info on the artist's career and latest endeavors but also includes a healthy list of other web ventures to investigate.
    •
    • Photographer Wayne T. Helfrich's online gallery of photographs aptly demonstrate his superb eye for the photogenic.  His galleries include photos of Blues, folk, and bluegrass artists, plus a generous assortment of herpetology and nature photos that are a true delight. Helfrich is featured in the first posting of The Juke Jar.

    •

    • UK-based pennyblackmusic.com features music news, articles, reviews, photography, discussion boards, and more with an emphasis on indie labels and artists. The site is updated regularly and definitely worth bookmarking for frequent visits.

    Literary Journals, etc.

    • Dreaming Methods, an online magazine featuring digital fiction, is an interesting concept that makes use of contemporary technology in a way that engages even worn-out book readers like the guys who started Canopic Jar back in an earlier century. Well-worth the electronic visit.
    •
    • Utahna Faith is the flash fiction editor for 3am Magazine and also has the Utahna Faith website.

    •

    • Janet Buck's web page features information on her published work and provides links to many worthwhile literary sites and magazines.

    Resources for Writers and Readers

    • Carroll Dale Short's A Writer's Tool Kit is one of the best online resources for writers available (and the book from which sprang the website is a must-read for any writer or teacher of writing. It is available online).
    •
    • The NewSouth Books website has information on other books by Carroll Dale Short as well as hundreds of other books with special care given to Southern authors and themes. There is also a valuable resources and links page. The NewSouth bookstore is a must-see landmark for anyone visiting or passing through Montgomery, Alabama.
    •
    • Corey Mesler's Burke’s Bookstore in Memphis, Tennessee is one of the country's oldest and best independent bookstores, and it is also a fine website to visit.

    Other Recommended Sites and Resources

    • Writing, literature, technology, reality and others are what Susan of Spinning talks well about. Her weblog is a mine of anecdotes and reviews, and writing intelligence. She has had a link on her blog to Canopic Jar for ages. What we're also hoping for, is a submission.
