We are very pleased to announce that the coming months will feature the publication of two distinct poetry collections from Canopic Publishing. May 24th will see the release of Shadows by Gene Kimmet, and August 1st is the scheduled release date for Stones: The Collected Short Poems of Charles Ghigna.

The poetry of Gene Kimmet is familiar to regular Canopic readers. In addition to being regularly featured in Canopic Jar, Gene’s third poetry collection, Reflections of My Father, was published by Canopic in 2015. We’ll continue to feature selections from Gene’s magnificent catalog. His poetry is always in season.

Charles Ghigna is the author of more than 100 books for children and adults. Previous publishers include Random House, Disney, Hyperion, Scholastic, Simon & Schuster. His poems appear in hundreds of textbooks, anthologies, and magazines — from the New Yorker and Harper's to Cricket and Highlights.
(The Poetry Foundation offers a good intro to the work of Charles Ghigna.)
Each of these titles is a point of pride for Canopic, but to have them coming out in the same summer feels like a literary coup. To top it off, both titles will feature a cover design by Sarah Hasty Williams, which is a coup of a different sort. We are truly grateful to have an artist of Sarah’s caliber on board the Canopic train (we are not ashamed to admit that as an indie press we don’t generally have the coffers for high-end artwork, but luckily Sarah comes with the compassion afforded a 40-year friendship combined with a genuine passion for art and artists. We’re truly grateful for the kind association.)

Stick around for the ride. We’ll be posting bits and pieces from Gene, Charles, and Sarah along the way—and we’ll keep sharing art and artists in the ever-organic Canopic Jar.
