"Checkout Time," a poem by Hal Rice

Checkout Time

Self-checkout scares me

I might forget to put a can

In the bag

I look confused and slow

In the pet aisle

They have a new girl

(aisle eleven)

She stocks cat food

And all that

Tuesdays and Thursdays

In aisle eleven

The pharmacy is slow

I tell them I can wait
